North Sea Shores

North Sea Shores is looking for funding to develop a varied portfolio of projects that encourage a greater engagement of peoples of the North Sea Shores in the culture, languages, social thinking, creative literature, food and drink of their "co-literals" who live in the other countries that surround the North Sea.  The following are some of the first elements we plan to develop in 2008-9.

Networks & Dissemination

northseashores.com will share information on cultural events and cooperations in the region; act as a catalyst for anyone developing collaborative ventures; give information on funding; and publicize the North Sea Region as a vibrant cultural pole.  This will extend the public knowledge of and interaction with existing networks and invite contact and collaboration between organisations like North Sea Jazz, North Sea Maritime Museum Network, Svensk Form, Nolde Stiftung Seebühl, Kulturkontakt Nord, Skagen's Museum, Stavanger 2008-North Sea Project,  European Cultural Tourism Network, Stiftung kunst:raum sylt quelle

2008-9 funding required     €25 000.

Publications & Translations

North Sea Shores 2009 will be the first regular digest of news and articles on regional cooperation across the broad spread of culture, literature, food and drink, design, academic groups, and museums.

North Sea Voices will involve the publicaiton of translated texts that represent the best of  current and classic literature on the North Sea.

We expect to collaborate with national organisations such as NLPVF (NL), VFL (BE), Danish Literature (DK), Arts Council England (UK), and private sector partners like Hagen Agency (NO), Schöffling (DE), Norstedt (SE), and Book Invention (DK).

2008-9 funding required     €60 000

Food  & Drink

North Sea Provisions will use events and publications to share the regional food and drink of the North Sea Shores, for example hams, smoked fish, beer and bread. These activities will involve food and drink producers, processors, retailers, markets, food writers, food (e.g. herring) and drink (e.g. beer) festivals, and restaurants.  It will also encourage collaborations between events such as Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival (UK), Hemsby Herring Festival (UK), Zythos Bier Festival (BE),  Den Norske Matfestivalen i Ålesund (NO), and Met Kunst aan Tafel (BE).

2008-9 funding required     €40 000

Prospective Partners

The partners mentioned above are just some of the groups we wish to engage in this project, and a vast array of  other potential partners to whom we look for partnership, support and funding include writers and artists, publishers, translators, food producers and retailers, festivals, galleries, universities, academic and professional groups, cultural and media organisations, local authorities and regional development agencies.
